Wonju Airport opened in Gokgyo-ri, Hoengseong-eup, Hoengseong-gun, Gangwon-do as Hoengseong-gun Airfield in 1975, and its history began.The government worked on opening civil aviation facilities from January 1993 and commenced construction in November 1995. Korean Air was the first operator to join the airport in February 1997. Hosting 115,000 flights, the airport can serve 240,000 passengers on a yearly basis.The ramp can accommodate one B737-class aircraft, and the parking lot can cater to 135 vehicles. Some routes between Wonju and Jeju are currently in operation, but the gradual increase of demand for the Jeju route is expected to add to the number of routes.
