Ulsan Airport started operation as Ulsan Airfield in November 1970 in Songjeong-dong, Buk-gu, Ulsan Metropolitan City, with Korean Air launching the Ulsan – Seoul route as a regular route.It was temporarily suspended in 1973 followed by full closure in 1974, but the regular Ulsan-Seoul route was resumed by Korean Air in 1984.In March 1992, Asiana Airlines launched the Ulsan-Seoul route, and Korean Air started the Ulsan-Jeju route in February 1993. Asiana Airlines also commissioned the same route in May 1993.The passenger terminal was expanded in December 1997 for 60,000 flights serving 2,410,000 passengers yearly, with a parking lot accommodating up to 500 vehicles.
