Gimpo Airport is located at 100 Haneul-gil(Gonghang-dong), Gangseo-gu, Seoul.
The history of the airport began in 1939 as the Japanese army constructed a runway at Banwhwa-ri, Yangseo-myeon, Gimpo-gun, Gyeonggi-do at that time, which then allowed operation of civil aircrafts with its use by the U.S. Air Force, and was then partially allowed use by our country as well from 1954.
Thereafter, it was only in 1958 that it was designated as Gimpo International Airport by presidential decree, and officially began taking shape as an airport in 1971.
Gimpo Airport, which has firmly secured its position as the eldest brother of domestic airports, is not only an airport, but currently provides airport users with further enjoyment with a space of cultural complex, leisure, and shopping called ‘Sky City’.

Opened port as Gimpo Airfield (Began as an administrative airfield of the Japanese Army at Banwhwa-ri, Yangseo-myeon, Gimpo-gun, Gyeonggi-do at that time)

Agreement of operation as Gimpo Airfield between Korea·America
1957. 05
Completion of Gimpo Airfield’s emergency renovation, used as international airport
1958. 01
Gimpo International Airport expansion work (joining with Yeouido Airport)
1958. 04
Gimpo International Airport formally designated as an international airport
1958. 12
Gimpo International Airport commissioned for international flights of the Korean National Airlines(KNA)
1960
Completion of the integrated complex of Gimpo International Airport (Currently in the location of Domestic Flights)
1967
First installation of omnidirectional radio beacon facilities(TVOR)
1971
Completion of the Domestic Flights Complex of Gimpo International Airport
1973
Completion of expansion work for the integrated complex of Gimpo International Airport (Currently in the location of Domestic Flights)
1974
Expansion of airport facilities such as runways, taxiways, ramps, passenger terminals, parking lots, etc.
1978
Completion of runway expansion & new cargo terminal construction
