Filling Out Landing Card

When visiting another country you fill out the disembarkation card and embarkation card required for that country. The content of the landing cards of each country are similar but may vary slightly in format.

Informationregarding item name, overseas departure, and landing cards.
Item Name When on a flight overseas and nearing the destination, the flight attendants will go around passing out landing cards and customs declarations.
This is a disembarkation card in order to enter a foreign country and does not apply to those who will be transferring directly without going through immigration but is a required document for those entering the country and should be filled out in advance.
At this time, 2 landing cards are filled out for embarkation and disembarkation, and the embarkation card is required when leaving the country and so should be stored safely.
Receive immigration inspection by submitting your disembarkation card, passport, and plane ticket to the personnel at the foreign immigration checkpoint.
Overseas Departure Of the 2 landing cards that you filled out before entering the foreign country, submit the disembarkation card at the immigration checkpoint, and store the embarkation card safely and then submit it at the immigration checkpoint when leaving that country.
Filling Out Landing Card Landing cards are generally made to be filled out in clear English upper case letters, and should be filled out without any spaces where possible.

Filling Out Customs Declaration

  • Fill out the basic information such as Name , Sex, Nationality, Date of Birth, Purpose of Travel, Temporary Place of Residence, etc., identically to the disembarkation card
  • Mark ‘No’ in the field that inquires possession of fruit, plants, meat, foods, soil, bird, snakes, and other such living organisms.
  • Mark ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ in the field that inquires possession of money exceeding the country’s declaration standard. Calculate the total sum of the items in your possession and write it as a US dollar amount.
  • For US customs declarations, the ‘Warning’ on the back side states that essential goods, illegal goods, and imported goods on the ''''Warning'''' on the back conflict with US law regardless of quantity, that prohibited agricultural produce must be declared at customs when carrying in, and that violation will result in a penalty.
  • After filling out your customs declaration, proofread one more time and then sign.
Information regarding item name, animal quarantine, and plant quarantine.
Item Name Passengers who are entering from areas contaminated by cholera, yellow fever, or pests(Southeast Asia, Africa, South America) must fill out and submit the quarantine inquiry distributed on board, and those who experienced diarrhea or stomach pain while traveling must consult a quarantine officer and receive the necessary tests, and file a report at a quarantine station or nearby health center if the same symptoms are experienced within 1 week of returning. Travelers of areas infected by falciparum malaria should consult a doctor(National Medical Center general physician, etc.) and if so decided should purchase and take an antimalarial drug at a pharmacy(A pharmacy that handles imported drugs).
Animal Quarantine

Animals and livestock carried by passengers must be reported to the National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service(Animal Quarantine Service) and be quarantined immediately after entry, and must submit the animal quarantine certificate issued by the exporting country. After receiving testing by a quarantine officer, pets must be quarantined at the animal quarantine station docks. For importation of more than 3 pets, you must receive an approval of use for the docks in advance by the quarantine service.


Meat can only be carried in from areas where importation has been allowed, and an importation declaration must be made to an animal quarantine officer with an attached certificate of quarantine with the partnering country.
Failure to attach a certificate of quarantine will result in return or incineration.

Plant Quarantine Passengers who are entering with plants must file a report to the Plant Quarantine Service and be quarantined immediately after entry, and failure to report will result in a maximum penalty of of 5,000,000 Won. Even if it is a importable plant, those that have been infected by pests subject to quarantine will be sterilized or disposed as it goes through quarantine disposal, and importation of plants prohibited from importation according to Article 10 of the Plant Protection Act will be returned or disposed of.
Information regarding passports or seaman’s pocketbooks, entry permits, and transit without visa.
Passport or Seaman’s Pocketbook All entrants must be in possession of a passport or seaman’s pocketbook. Citizens of countries designated by the South Korean government as one without amnesty can only enter if issued a foreigner entry permit by the diplomatic offices. A LAISSEZ PASSER issued by the United Nations(UN) is also considered a valid passport.
Entry Visa All foreigners must be issued a permit by an overseas Embassy of the Republic of Korea or consulate. However, citizens who have receive multiple visas or re-entry permits are not required to be issued an entry permit.
Transit Without Visa Passengers who are entering with the purpose of tourism or transiting enter and stay within the bounds of 15 days, and can extend their length of stay unless otherwise prohibited.

Collecting Baggage Entrusted to the Airline

  • Report to the relevant airline if your baggage has not been delivered(Must bring baggage tag)
Information regarding passports or seaman’s pocket books, entry permits, and transit without visa.
Voluntary Report Travelers who voluntarily report items(items subject to being reported) that have an overseas purchase price over US$600 when entering can principally acknowledge the reported amount and skip the customs inspection. Travelers who do not voluntarily report items subject to being reported at customs will not only be required to pay the concerned item’s tax and additional tax corresponding to 20% of that tax, but will also go through in-depth examination when carrying in items that are recognized as commercial items.

  • Personal items or gifts with a total overseas acquisition price that is below the corresponding amount of US600 per 1 person (However, within 100,000 Won each for agricultural products and medicinal herbs)
  • 1 bottle of alcoholic beverage (Below US$ 400 and less than 1 liter.)
  • Cigarettes (200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, 250g for other cigarettes)
  • 2 ounces of perfume
  • Items being carried back in after receiving verification by the customs office when departing (Personal items, professional items, etc.)

  • Forged or falsified currency or bills
  • Endangered wild animals/plants that are protected according to international convention as well as their products
  • Medicinal herbs from animals such as bears and musk, as well as fur, ivory, and taxidermies and such of tigers, turtles, crocodiles, etc.
